Improving business and human rights in transboundary river basins in South Asia

This session will explore emerging linkages between business, human rights and shared waters issues in some of the south Asian transboundary river basins and facilitate further multi-stakeholder collaborative actions on this cross-cutting issue.

Findings from a regional scoping analysis of business and human rights issues in transboundary rivers of South Asia and similar other analyses will be shared to highlight the emerging business and human rights issues in transboundary rivers context.

Lessons learnt from on-the-ground experience where civil society and communities-based organizations are engaged in more evidence-informed dialogue with businesses, industry associations and government to collectively work on more responsible and inclusive business practices that recognise and protect the rights of communities to water and other natural resources and ecosystem services such as inland navigation will be shared.

Building on some of these insights, the session will identify opportunities that will further foster more dialogues and support multi-stakeholder action platforms on business, human rights and environment in transboundary basins and regional contexts in South Asia.
