Ms. Yeo is a Deputy Chair of the FSB Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) and she is instrumental to the introduction of sustainability reporting for listed companies in Singapore. She has served as Deputy Managing Director at the Monetary Authority of Singapore and various regulatory roles in a distinguished career. Green bonds are important financial instruments for channeling additional funds to environmentally-beneficial projects and thereby accelerating the global transition to a low-carbon economy. Yet two questions are frequently asked by stakeholders: how much have green bonds and climate bonds contributed to their stated environmental goals; and has there been adequate attention placed on the social impact of projects funded by green bonds?
Oxfam Hong Kong and Carbon Care Asia are pleased to release the findings of a new research report on these crucial issues after conducting an in-depth analysis of 249 green bonds issued in Asia since 2018. This will add to the ongoing debate on how to enhance the standards and practices of green bond issues, which are of particular concern to sustainability-conscious investors.
Following the launch of the report, our panel of experts will discuss:
· Have the environmental outcomes from green bond issues met public expectations?
· Should SDGs be embedded in green and climate bonds to avoid negative impacts?
· What role should regulators play in enhancing and enforcing green bond standards?
· Can investors be assured of process integrity in the post-Covid era?
· How to build a consensus pathway to improving standards and practices?
