Masterclass on Motor Driven Systems

*** SCEM PUDs to be awarded

COURSE OVERVIEW

This 3-day course is an in depth of the various topics associated with motors and motor systems in commercial and industrial facilities. The 3-day intensive course will begin with examining how various types of motor works, how they are selected and applied, and how they interact with the electrical distribution system. We will then look at maintenance considerations, and the impact of using Variable Frequency Drives (VFD). We will conclude the course with special considerations for motors and VFDs used in compressor systems, fan systems and pump systems, including an overview of best practices for optimizing these systems.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the completion of the 3-day training attendees will be able to:

  • Identify key components of a motor
  • List eight key name plate motor characteristics
  • Explain the benefits of motor management
  • List the four key elements of a high quality motor repair
  • Describe the differences between a premium efficiency and a standard motor
  • Recognise the prime factors that contribute to poor power factor
  • List 3 consequences of a poor power factor
  • Compare strategies for improving power factor
  • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of using variable frequency drives
