61 nominations received for Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize

Sixty-one nominations from across five continents were received for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2012.

The nominations covered a wide range of solutions including technologies harnessing solar power for water treatment and the management of agriculture waters and rainwater.

Launched in 2008, the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize is the highlight of the Singapore International Water Week held annually in Singapore.

Nominations closed on October 31.

Nominees will undergo two rounds of rigorous selection and the winner will be decided by the prize council, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, chairman of the National Research Foundation.

The recipient of the 2012 award will be announced in March next year and will be honoured at a ceremony held at the Singapore International Water Week in July.

The recipient will receive S$300,000, as well as an award certificate and a gold medallion in recognition of his/her contributions to the water industry.

The 5th Singapore International Water Week, themed “Water Solutions for Liveable and Sustainable Cities”, will be held from July 1-5 2012, in conjunction with the 3rd World Cities Summit and the inaugural CleanEnviro Summit Singapore.
