A zero-emission benchmark for Hong Kong’s green buildings

Hong Kong now has its first building that produces more energy than it consumes with the construction of the Zero Carbon Building (ZCB). Surrounded by old factory buildings and contemporary tall buildings, the small, but momentous building uses more than 80 different green building technologies including micro-wind turbines, solar PV panels and biodiesel generators powered by used cooking oil. ZCB director Li Guiyi said it is unlikely to be replicated. Rather, it will demonstrate the range of options for reducing environmental impacts available to local building owners. The building will be open to the public in mid-December.
