After more than a decade with Unilever, Amita Chaudhury has moved to Asian insurance giant AIA as group head of sustainability.

In a LinkedIn post on Tuesday (4 May), Chaudhury wrote that she was excited to support AIA’s “ambition of building healthier, longer, better lives for millions of people in Asia.”
She joins AIA to further embed the company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitment within AIA’s operations, and drive sustainability efforts throughout the organisation, a spokesperson told Eco-Business.
Chaudhury had been on secondment with UN Global Compact, as a senior sustainability advisor, for the last year and a half. While at Unilever, she was the company’s head of sustainable business, Southeast Asia and Australasia, and before that, global director of diversity and inclusion director, based in London and Singapore.
She joins AIA a month after the Hong Kong-based company, which is Asia’s biggest life insurer, released a new version of its sustainability report in which it unveiled new measures to curb coal financing following sustained pressure from environmental groups.
Chaudhury pivoted her career towards sustainability at Unilever in 2010. Prior to then, she has worked in marketing, at Colgate Palmolive and also Unilever in India.
While at UN Global Compact, she had led strategy development for the UN Global Compact Academy, which trains businesses to support their sustainability ambitons.
At Unilever, she drove efforts to build a circular economy for flexible plastic packaging, building collection and recycling infrastructure, advocacy and partnerships. During her time at the consumer goods firm, she won a “Leading women in Asia” award from the World Business Council of Sustainable Development.
