Amcorp Properties Bhd is looking to venture into the reneweable energy business in Indonesia, specifically mini-hydro power plants.
It said on Monday it was optimistic about these hydro plants due to Indonesia’s natural landscapes and current low ratio of installed capacity versus population.
“Amcorp has made it a priority to venture into the green energy sector not just in Malaysia, but possibly also overseas,” said Amcorp Group Bhd chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim.
Amcorp had on Monday completed and commissioned its 10.25MW solar power plant in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan. The power plant has a power purchase agreement with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for 21 years at a feed-in tariff of 87.4 sen/kWh.
The plant, which was completed within four months, has 41,076 solar panels and generated an average of one million kilowatt-hour of electricity monthly since it started in January this year.
To recap, Amcorp ventured into renewable energy in 2006 when it signed the 21 year power purchase agreement to develop a 4MW mini hydro power plant in Bentong, Pahang. It was commissioned in 2009 work in under way to expand its capacity to 6MW.
Amcorp is developing a 17MW mini hydro power plant project in Sg Liang, Pahang.
