Australia’s high speed rail tease

Australia’s Greens party has released a study citing $48 billion in benefits for a high speed rail line on the east coast. The proposed rail line would provide better access to Melbourne’s outlying areas, reduce traffic congestion from commuters and provide substantial time savings, said the study. However, Australian Workers Union national secretary Paul Howes was skeptical of the proposal and said that Australia’s governments have a habit of developing and then ignoring transport plans.
