India’s fourth largest municipal corporation is seeking tenders from waste technology firms to remedy Bangalore’s ‘unscientific’ landfills, officials announced on Tuesday. The city’s new commissioner, Rajneesh Goel, said at a roundtable meeting he had heard proposals from Japanese and German experts in waste-to-energy technology. He also accused the state pollution board of neglecting to properly manage Bangalore’s landfills. City waste management has reached crisis levels as open dumps have flourished and gargage collectors threaten strikes due to unpaid wages.
