Burma’s energy potential: Vast but under-funded

Limited capital has hampered Burma’s capacity to expand its potential for power generation, said the Asian Development Bank. According to the Philippine-based multilateral lending agency, Burma’s development of its vast potential in natural gas had been held back by decades of under-investment, as well as poor legal and regulatory frameworks. As Myanmar slowly opens up its market to the global arena, the ADB said the country must use the opportunity to harness its energy resources to produce power for its own development. Apart from natural gas, the ADB said, Burma has other energy sources it can explore like hydropower and geothermal power.
