The government will invest NT$3.2 billion (US$100 million) over the next six years in developing intelligent green buildings, the Executive Yuan announced yesterday.
The government’s stake in promoting such buildings has been raised from the NT$2.6 billion proposed in July, primarily to improve energy saving and carbon emissions reductions by residences and commercial units.
The scheme to push intelligent green buildings will run from 2010 to 2015. To jump-start the industry and meet the demand for an intelligent lifestyle, construction will incorporate high-tech systems for home security, energy monitoring, water conservation, fire prevention and healthcare.
Related developments will include research into the building of green factories and cleaner production processes, to make low carbon and environmentally friendly products.
According to the Executive Yuan, the plan will also bolster the use of green and intelligent technologies at science parks, as well as the development of eco-communities at two park branches.
The scheme is expected to attract private investment worth NT$70 billion to NT$80 billion, the Cabinet noted.
Intelligent green buildings, along with cloud computing, intelligent electric vehicles and the commercialization of patents are the four intelligent industries promoted by the government.
