The Export-Import Bank of China is lending Cameroon 365 billion CFA francs ($736 million) to build a water supply system for the capital, Yaounde, and nearby villages, Water and Energy Minister Michael Ngako Tomdio said.
The program includes construction of a pipeline from the Sanaga River, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of Yaounde, and a pumping station, said Jin Chun Hui, vice president of China National Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Corp., which will build the project.
Work on the 430 billion CFA franc project, designed to reach about 2 million people, is scheduled to start next year and should be completed in 28 months, Ngako Tomdio said yesterday in an interview.
