Canon Vietnam strives for a green Vietnam

Japanese Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd signed an agreement with Vietnam’s two northern provinces for building “For a Green Vietnam 2011” project as a part of its social activities in Vietnam yesterday.

Under the agreement, Canon Vietnam will sponsor forest planting on the total area of 30 hectares with a total budget of $25,641 in Bac Giang province and Thanh Hoa province.

Applying a new forest management method that is being implemented in Vietnam, forest will be given to local households for taking care of and managing under supervision of local provincial people’s committees and a protective forest management board.

Canon’s “For a Green Vietnam” project kicked off in 2009 with the aims to increase the area of protected forest, reduce the amount of CO2 emissions, prevent erosion and build a green environment in Vietnam.

“Protecting the environment is not only (the) responsibility of any individual or organisation, but also the whole society’s responsibility. If each person plants and protects one tree, we have basis to hope for a green covering all hills of Vietnam as well as…a green planet – the most valuable property of todays’ generation reserved for the following generations,” said Sachio Kageyama, general director of Canon Vietnam.
