The ROC Council for Economic Planning and Development is studying the possibility of constructing underground reservoirs to help supply Taiwan’s future water needs.
“It’s becoming increasingly difficult to develop water resources in Taiwan,” a CEPD official said May 3. “Subterranean reservoirs could play an important role in coping with possible supply problems in the years ahead.
“The success of such facilities depends on having a full grasp of the extent of mountain groundwater reserves and their replenishment,” the official said. To this end, a comprehensive survey of mountain hydrogeology must be conducted.
The government will carry out a two-year census on surface and groundwater resources, as well as underground reservoirs nationwide, he noted.
