China has increased its grid-connected wind capacity to 39.13GW as of the end of October, a net rise of 14.81GW (60.9%) over the same period in 2010, according to the China Electricity Council.
At the end of 2010, China had 44.7GW wind turbines installed across the country, accounting for an estimated 15.1% of China’s technically exploitable 297GW wind resources. But due to grid-access bottleneck, a large proportion of wind turbines are yet to be connected to the grid.
In the first 10 months, China’s 6MW+ wind farms, generated 58.25 billion kwh wind power to the grid, up 56.87% on the previous year.
However, wind farm investment dropped by 14% year on year in the first 10 months. The reduction was mainly attributed to lower investment in wind farm development in some leading wind power provinces.
