Real estate services firm CBRE has appointed David Fogarty to run its Southeast Asia sustainability consulting team.

Fogarty is moving from London to Singapore to take on the position of senior executive director, head of sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) consulting services, Singapore and Southeast Asia, at CBRE, effective 4 May.

His role will involve developing and implementing business for the growth of the firm’s sustainability services in Singapore and the wider region. He will be on the same team as Martyn Harrison, who joined CBRE from Sembcorp a year ago.

Moray Armstrong, CBRE’s director of Singapore advisory services, said the pandemic has “contributed to a greater focus on ESG”, and that the firm has noticed significant interest for ESG from investors and occupiers. “Hence, it is crucial for us to strengthen our team and be in this space to meet the growing demand,” he said.

A recent study of investor intentions by CBRE found that more large investors are integrating ESG criteria into their investment by focusing on the purchase of buildings with green certification and by retrofitting existing properties.

Fogarty, who shares the same name as the climate change editor of Singapore newspaper The Straits Times, relocates to Singapore after more than two years in London, where he was executive managing director, property management, CBRE UK.

He has spent more than 11 years in various roles at CBRE. He was previously investment director for property firm Knight Frank in Australia.
