Day4 Energy inks solar cell development deal with Taiwan’s Ever Energy

Photovoltaic cell maker Day4 Energy (TSE:DFE) has struck a deal with Taiwan-based solar company Ever Energy to make solar panel cells using the company’s own DNA technology.

Vancouver-based Day4 Energy’s proprietary solar panel technology improves cell efficiency, including lower operating temperatures, increased kilowatt hours without power loss from cells to modules, and high efficiency in low light conditions.

The technology replaces the conventional high-temperature solar cell soldering process. No financial details were mentioned in Monday’s statement.

In the ensuing months, Ever Energy and its research and development division plan to use Day4’s trademark technology to launch new cell designs.

Ever Energy’s president, J.J. Lee, said by implementing Day4’s cell making processes, the company can provide a “differentiated product and competitive edge for module manufacturers”.

Ever Energy, founded in 2005, makes silicon-based solar photovoltaic cells that use stable and reliable wafers from other suppliers.

Its focus has been to improve low cost process development for high efficiency cells and to provide support to customers for enhancing modules.

Day4 Energy’s president, George Rubin, added: “Without the need for high temperature soldering, or concern for micro-cracks, cell producers can offer module manufacturers the added benefits of extremely low cell to modules power losses. No other cell technology does all of this.”

“We are proud to partner with Ever Energy. Together we can offer module manufacturers around the world a clear path to producing higher value, lower cost products for their customers.”

Last week, Day4 Energy and plasma technology company Roth & Rau (ETR:R8R) made a module with a power efficiency of 19.3%, a gauge of the amount of sunlight converted into power.  Modules are usually 14% to 15% efficient.

The Vancouver-based solar company’s shares closed at 23 cents last Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
