DM’s guide on thermal insulation of buildings

The Buildings Department of Dubai Municipality (DM) has recently signed a cooperation agreement with Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST), said Abdullah Rafia, assistant director-general for engineering and planning sector at DM.

“According to the agreement, the University will conduct a study aimed at issuing an integrated guide that exclusively includes all types of buildings built before 2003 and the recommendations regarding the best ways, methods and specifications of thermal insulation for each type of those buildings, in technical, practical and economic terms,” Rafia said.

“The guide aims to reduce energy waste used in air-cooling, which represents about 70 per cent of the total energy of the buildings, as well as to raise the level of comfort and luxury of the user,” he added.

Khalid Mohammed Saleh, director of buildings department said the strategic objectives of the DM in achieving environmental sustainability reflect in its initiatives, most importantly, in the application of green building and energy conservation by reducing consumption and raising efficiency.
