Energy dept turns over P2M to CTU to establish renewable energy center

The Department of Energy (DOE) turned over P2.18 million to the Cebu Technological University the other day for the establishment of an Affiliated Renewable Energy Center (AREC) for Region 7 to pursue its mandate to undertake a continuing national program for the development of indigenous energy resources.

The check was handed over by DOE senior science research specialist Ricardo dela Cruz to CTU President Bonifacio Villanueva during a briefing on the implementation of projects through AREC, which was sealed by a memorandum of agreement between DOE and CTU.

One such project being implemented is the solar waste pumping station in Maribojoc, Bohol.

The center’s office to be put up inside CTU Main Campus on M.J. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City will house its staff and personnel who are tasked to carry out energy projects in Cebu and Bohol.

Dr. Villanueva said CTU-AREC is in a position to implement efficiently energy projects in Cebu with its more than ten campuses located strategically throughout the province.

Dela Cruz said during the briefing the importance of thorough planning and determined implementation of projects within a scheduled timetable to make full use of government funds intended for the purpose.
