Flagship solar farm ready by 2014

The flagship solar project of Australian developer Solmessis in Queensland is set for completion by 2014. The 20 MW photovoltaic facility, once operational, will be ramped up to 50 MW capacity and then to 80 MW-plus at a later date. Solmessis said they were able to build the facility cheaply on the back of a strong Australian dollar and the low cost of Chinese photovoltaic cells. Solmessis CEO Hamish Wall said the construction cost was as little as US$40 million or half the cost per MW of the 10 MW Greenough River solar farm.
