Four new eco-tourism circuits in state

Wildlife enthusiasts will have more eco-tourism options to choose from if they are travelling to Maharashtra. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has developed four eco-tourism circuits in Vidarbha region.

After Tadoba, MTDC has recently set up new base camps in forest areas at Sakoli, Ramtek (Khindsi), Chikhaldara and Bodhalkasa.

Tourists can look forward to living in eco-huts, eco-friendly dormitories and using bio-digester toilets in these thickly-forested areas. The locations, which were selected because of their tourism potential, have been attracting plenty of tourists, including international travellers, who visit the region famous for tiger spotting.

While camps at Sakoli, Ramtek (Khindsi), Chikhaldara are complete, the one at Bodhalkasa is expected to be operational in three months.

Satish Soni, joint managing director of MTDC said, “We have spent nearly Rs 37 crore to develop eco-tourism in the Vidarbha region. The locations are in the forest area and cannot be accessed by trains. Tourists will have the option of staying for as long as they want to enjoy the natural surroundings. We have been granted another Rs 42 crore with which we are planning to set up an eco-tourism mega project in the Gondia, Bhandara and Nagpur areas. The process of land acquisition is on for these areas.”
