i Light Marina Bay returns with more organisations taking part

Asia’s first and only sustainable light art festival i Light Marina Bay returns in March with a more than two-fold increase in participating buildings.

So far, 42 buildings have pledged to take part in the campaign to drive energy efficiency.

This is a big jump from the 16 building owners and corporations that supported the 2010 inaugural edition of the “Switch Off, Turn Up” campaign.

The campaign has also extended its reach well beyond the Marina Bay precinct, with buildings across the island pledging their support.

Buildings in other areas such as Wisma Atria, New Tech Park and Tampines Concourse are also taking part in this year’s “Switch Off, Turn On”.

Over the three-week i Light Marina Bay festival period, these buildings will switch off non-essential indoor and outdoor lighting and office equipment whenever possible.

They will also turn up the air-conditioning temperatures to a comfortable 24 to 25 degrees during office hours.

Festival organiser, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) aims to energise more businesses to come on board.

Mark Goh, deputy director of Place Management at the URA said: “Participants in the last campaign collectively saved more than 41,000 kilowatts of electricity - this was a great success, thanks to the participating of buildings mostly within Marina Bay.

“This year, we have widened our reach to buildings beyond Marina Bay to spread the sustainability message to more businesses and advocate conscious energy management in their daily operations.

“We welcome more businesses to be part of this initiative as we strive towards a more sustainable future.”

i Light Marina Bay will open nightly from 7.30pm to 11pm from 9 March to 1 April 2012.
