The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has this week released figures showing that it has assigned 1.17GW of grid connections for solar projects across the country over the past three years, providing a further boost to the country’s ambitious solar energy plans.
The government said that 132 solar farms have already been commissioned boasting 369MW of grid connected capacity, while over 700MW of projects was in the pipeline.
The state of Gujarat led the way with over 824MW of installed capacity assigned over the past three years, followed by Rajasthan with 251MW and Maharashtra with 25MW.
The vast majority of the capacity was provided by solar PV installations, but one solar thermal project with 2.5MW of capacity also came online.
