The chief of sustainability for Malaysian bank CIMB Group will be relocating to Singapore in September.

Luanne Sieh, who was appointed as the Kuala Lumpur-headquarted group’s chief sustainability officer in January 2018, announced she was moving to Singapore in a Linkedin post on Thursday.

“I will be continuing in my role as group chief sustainability officer, dedicated to driving positive change,” she wrote in the post.

CIMB has appointed Tania Davina Yoganathan as head, sustainability Malaysia, to be in charge of Malaysia-specific matters.

Sieh told Eco-Business that she will retain her responsibilities as group chief sustainability officer, overseeing regional sustainability centres of excellence, as well as on ground teams in various Southeast Asian countries from Singapore.

“I hope to learn from and tap into the vibrant and cutting-edge sustainable finance scene in Singapore, to bring new ideas, best practices and perhaps even talent to the rest of the Asean region,” said Sieh on her move to Singapore. “It is also an important market for CIMB in driving our Asean wholesale network business, an area where we have seen rapidly growing interest for sustainable finance solutions amongst clients.”

The Eco-Business 2020 A-Lister said that she had been contemplating this move for some time, and that it was made possible due to the realities of the post-Covid era, where remote work can now be done effectively.

Sieh holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s Degree in manufacturing engineering from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and a Master of liberal arts, sustainability from the Harvard Extension School. She has been at CIMB for nearly a decade, and previously held senior leadership roles at Maybank and insurance broker Willis Towers Watson.

Sieh is also the working group chair of the CEO Action Network, a Malaysian sustainability-focused informal coalition of leading CEOs and senior corporate figures.
