Massive industrial wastewater cleanup for Vietnam

The Prime Minister approved a three-year US$281 million programme to clean up 47 polluted trade villages, all of which failed basic water quality tests. An annual survey of Vietnam’s 4,500 villages that specialise in specific industries or trades found these 47 to be the most seriously polluted due to lack of sufficient wastewater treatment and other environmental services. The cleanup will be done as part of the National Target Programme on Environmental Pollution Improvement, which aims to reduce pollution from factories, farming and urban areas.
