Minister opens World Congress on water

Water Minister Bill Marmion officially opened the World Congress on Desalination and Water Re-Use, at the Convention Centre in Perth yesterday morning.

Mr Marmion said it was appropriate Perth host the international conference because it was at the forefront in the use of desalination technology to boost drinking water supplies.

“The congress is expected to attract more than 1,200 delegates from around the world who work in the global desalination and water re-use industry,” he said.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the guests to not only experience the attractions of our city and State, but also to network with Government representatives and leading desalination industry experts from many nations.

“The congress runs for four days and many special events have been organised in Perth to enable guests to make the most of their visit.”

The opening of the congress comes after the recent openings of the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant near Binningup and the National Centre of Excellence in Desalination at Rockingham.

“It’s great timing and it has given delegates an opportunity to see what we are doing on the ground in Western Australia in terms of desalination research, technology and development,” the Minister said.
