It will soon be cheaper for owners of skyscraper buildings to install more greenery.
This was announced by Senior Minister of State for National Development, Grace Fu, at the official opening of CapitaLand’s indoor vertical garden at Six Battery Road on Thursday evening.
Ms Fu revealed that the new “Skyrise Greenery Incentive Scheme” will offer cash incentives of up to half the costs of installation of green walls and green roofs on existing buildings.
The scheme was a pilot programme introduced by the National Parks Board (NParks) to encourage existing buildings in Downtown and Orchard areas to install green roofs.
NParks has now expanded the scheme to other areas in Singapore.
To help building owners implement green walls smoothly, NParks will also provide technical advice on vertical greenery technology.
In addition, NParks will produce a booklet to share its know-how of implementing green walls.
In another push for buildings to have more greenery, the value of the prizes for the Skyrise Greenery Awards 2011, now into its fourth year, will be increased to attract quality applications internationally.
The first prize will be increased from US$5,000 to US$8,000, second prize from US$2,000 to US$5,000 and third prize from US$500 to US$2,000.
The award is organised by NParks and the Singapore Institute of Architects.
The competition has so far attracted applications from Australia, India, Malaysia and the UAE.
