Motor vehicle manufacturers and importers will have to pay an emissions testing fee for each new vehicle model to be tested from February 15.
The fee, which aims to help reduce air pollution, is regulated in Circular No 195 issued by the Ministry of Finance recently, and will range from VND700,000 (US$34) to VND110.2 million ($5,250) (value added tax is included).
Under the circular, vehicles will be tested following European emission standards, which define the acceptable limits for exhaust emissions from new vehicles.
The fee for a motorbike model to be tested ranges from VND700,000 ($34) to VND23.5 million ($1,120) for fuel evaporation examination.
Meanwhile, the highest fee for cars of less than 3,500 kilogram is VND44.7 million ($2,130) and which for cars of more than 3,500 kilogram is from VND3.3 million ($157) to VND110.2 million ($5,250).
The fee will be paid to the Viet Nam Register.
According to the National Motor Vehicle Emission Test Centre, if a vehicle model is proved to meet the emission standards, a test report will be given by the centre as one of mandatory documents for the model to be manufactured or imported.
