Scientists have said outdated policies for managing plastic waste should be changed to try and prevent there being another 33 billion tonnes of plastic on Earth by 2050.
That’s the equivalent of a line of about 2.75 billion rubbish trucks, which would wrap around the planet about 800 times, says a comment piece in the journal Nature.
The article comes as South Australia reveals it is set to introduce the nation’s first recycling scheme for soft plastics, particularly food wrappers and plastic bags.
