Private investor builds hydro power plant in S Sumatra

PT Hidro Cipta Energi is constructing a minihydro power plant with a capacity of 5 megawatts at Talangkubangan hamlet in South Sumatra province.

“The project is now entering a construction phase including a survey on location for the construction of a dam and power house. The water will be taken from Indikat river at Talangkubangan hamlet, Kancediwe village, Dempo Selatan, which is 3 km from a residential area and 15 km from an urban area,” PT Hidro Cipta Energi consultant Adik Margono said here on Sunday.

He said the company had secured a permit for construction of the hydro power plant and was now in the process of conducting an advanced survey on location for the construction of dam and other supporting facilities.

“The generator will be built around 50 meters from the dam. Overall, the project will be built on three hectares of land which is now at clearance phase,” he said.

It would take two years for the company to construct the power plant, he said.

The company would sell electrical power from the power plant to state power utilities PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) once the project was completed, he said.
