The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has allocated RM171 million under the GTP’s Rural Basic Infrastructure NKRA, to implement rural water supply projects this year.
Its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the amount included RM30mil for the construction of 30 water treatment plants with the remainder to be used for pipe works and upgrades to water supply infrastructure.
Shafie said tenders for the projects had been issued and they were expected to begin within the next two months.
He said up to April 30, 3,866 houses had been provided with clean and treated water supply.
Shafie said the ministry aims to provide 58,087 houses with water supply this year.
