Ben Moody, co-founder of Seven Clean Seas (SCS), is stepping back after more than five years with the Singapore-based coastal clean-up and plastic credits company.

Moody joined SCS in 2019 at the age of 23, less than a year after the company was started by Tom Peacock-Nazil and Pamela Correia. He has helped to grow the company to more than 100 staff, including permanently employed beach cleaners working around Indonesia’s coastline.

SCS’s operations are funded by corporate customers that pay for the clean-ups through plastic credits. The company, which operates in Indonesia and Thailand, has removed more than 3.5 million kilogrammes of plastic from beaches and waterways since its founding.

In a statement, Peacock-Nazil said that Moody’s “entrepreneurial spirit” played a crucial role during the company’s early stages.

Moody is expected to move into the investing space, with a focus on startups.

“Personally, this change is significant for me, as I have often leant on Ben both personally and professionally,” Peacock-Nazil said. “However, I am fortunate to have a strong team around me to continue driving our mission forward.”

In a LinkedIn post, Moody said: “From pioneering plastic credits to mobilising corporate capital for waste management, meeting incredible people and working with some insanely talented individuals, to working with on the FIFA World Cup and with Microsoft, the journey has been spectacular.”
