Malaysian oil and gas shipping company AET has appointed Chris Cattermole as head of sustainability.

Cattermole joins a company that has committed to deploying zero-emissions vessels by the end of the decade and achieving net zero emissions by 2050, in line with International Maritime Organisation’s sectorial climate targets.

He will be based in Singapore, where the company is headquartered.

His job will involve leading AET’s decarbonisation strategy and implementation, which includes overhauling the company’s fleet to run on low-carbon fuels. AET is a subsidiary of MISC Group, which is owned by Malaysian oil and gas giant Petronas.

In a post on LinkedIn on Thursday, Cattermole said he was “looking forward to getting stuck in with the sustainability risks, challenges and opportunities in shipping.”

Cattermole moves into the role after more than four years with consulting firm UL Solutions, where he was ESG advisory lead. Prior to UL, Cattermole worked for professional services firms Accenture and KPMG in a range of sustainability advisory roles in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Singapore.
