Effective from 1 November, Hazri Hassan joins SEC from the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE), where he served as the divisional director (international policy), and represented Singapore as a permanent representative to the United Nations Environment Programme.
In a press statement, SEC said Hassan was the ideal candidate to “lead SEC into a new era of growth in promoting environmental sustainability and enabling green development.”
He replaces Jen Teo who left the NGO in June. In the interim, the role was overseen by deputy executive director, Goh Wee Hong.
In his role at SEC, Hassan will work to foster collaboration between the public and private sectors and ensure SEC is at the forefront of Singapore’s environmental movement, according to the non-profit.
Hassan brings more than 30 years of experience to the role. After graduating with honours in civil engineering from the National University of Singapore, he joined the environment ministry as an engineer specialising in waste management and public health. In his most recent role at MSE, he was focused on formulating strategies for bilateral, regional and international issues to advance Singapore’s diplomacy in the sustainability space.
Hassan said in a press release: “I am committed to building on the organisation’s [SEC’s] legacy and working closely with the dedicated team to drive positive change for environment and community.”
