Climate change poses a challenge to all countries but also offers tremendous opportunities for new economic growth, said Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean at the UN climate talks in Doha. Teo said the global demand for low-carbon solutions will bring about new demand for new skills and technology. The Singaporean official urged countries to pledge emissions reduction goals to pave the way for a global climate treaty as climate change requires the participation of all countries. Teo said Singapore has made an unconditional pledge to cut down emissions by 7 to 11 per cent below business as usual (BAU) by 2020. It has also committed to a 16 per cent below BAU if a legally binding global agreement is signed.
