Dr Lee Hui Mien, head of sustainability at Mandai Park Development (MPD) and Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS), is leaving her role after four years to join communications technology giant Singtel in a senior sustainability position.

Lee joined Mandai Park Development (MPD), a nature theme park being built in Singapore’s Mandai area, in 2017 as vice president, team lead, sustainability solutions, and was later handed an expanded role running sustainability for WRS too.

She takes on the role of senior director for group environment sustainability at Singtel, a job which covers the company’s environment and climate portfolio. Lee will initially be focused on Singapore’s initiatives, but will subsequently lead and support those initiatives at a regional level.

Among Singtel’s sustainability plans are to reduce its direct and indirect emissions across its Singapore and Australian operations by 42 per cent from 2015 base year by 2030. The company also runs an electronic waste recycling programme in Singapore, and in Australia is aiming to make all packaging 100 per cent reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.

She will start on 20 September, and report to Singtel’s vice president of group sustainability, Andrew Buay.

Before her role at Mandai Park, Lee led the sustainability function for IKEA Southeast Asia. During her time at Mandai Park, Lee was named in the Eco-Business A-List in 2019, which recognises the most influential sustainability practitioners in Asia Pacific.

Lee is an electrical and electronic engineering graduate with a doctorate in sustainable product development from Nanyang Technological University. She started out her career in the Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) as a research scientist working on sustainable manufacturing.
