A solar-powered floating school project in Bangladesh has been nominated for an award at the World Innovation Summit in Education in Doha, Qatar. The proponents of the project – the non-profit organisation Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha - had wanted to provide uninterrupted schooling to primary education students particularly during the peak of monsoon rains. Mohammed Rezwan, executive director of Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha, said that he built the boat so that the school could come to the students during the rains if the children are unable to travel to the school.
The World Innovation Summit award seeks to recognize projects that not only transform education but also involves innovative financing for primary education.
