Standards Australia joins international voice on bio-fuels

Standards Australia will support the bio-fuels sector to promote industry certainty and participate in relevant international policies.

The organisation will be another voice in the International Organisation for Standardisation Technical Committee 248 Sustainability Criteria for Bioenergy, joining the likes of major bio-fuel players Germany and Brazil.

“The ISO technical committee is seen as instrumental in delivering internationally aligned standards to the bioenergy sector, and we’re pleased to be part of the process,” chief executive Colin Blair said.

Mr Blair said the Standard will support the Australian Government’s recently passed alternative fuels legislation which aims to deliver long-term policy certainty for bio-fuels and alternative energy.

“Through the ISO technical committee Standards Australia will work with industry and the Commonwealth Government to develop internationally agreed sustainability criteria for the sector,” Mr Blair said.

Mr Blair said that bio-energy presents many opportunities for Australian industry, innovation and the environment.
