Suntech cuts back production, jobs on the back of PV oversupply

China-based firm Suntech Power Holdings Co. Ltd  is set to slash production and jobs at its photovoltaics facility in Arizona. It will be reducing its PV manufacturing schedule by 30 per cent and taking out 50 jobs in order to push back manufacturing capacity from 45 MW to 15 MW. The decision to streamline is due to pressures from high production costs and a global oversupply. Suntech added, the US government’s decision to impose tariffs on Chinese imports of photovoltaic cells had made their business more costly.
