Suzlon Energy, the Indian wind energy giant wins global recognition for sustainability practices

Suzlon Energy, the world third largest and India’s largest wind energy company, wins the Gigaton award for global leadership in emission control and sustainability practices.

The award patronized by ‘The Carbon War Room ‘, a not for profit organization combating climate change was presented at a ceremony co-hosted by Sir Richard Branson in Cancun, Mexico on 4th December, 2010 on the sidelines of COP16.

Suzlon was the only wind energy company and the only Indian company across sectors to win this award. Other nominees in the energy sector were wind energy companies like Vestas, GE Wind, Seimens, Gamesa and Goldwind.

Tulsi R Tanti, the Chairman and Managing Director of Suzlon Group was also awarded the Champions of the Earth in 2009, the highest individual awards in this arena, conferred by the United Nations Environment Program.

Suzlon has been instrumental in pushing the agenda of Climate change across the world and has been setting national and global standards in sustainability with their Global Headquarters in Pune India being one of the greenest buildings in the world and is 100% powered by renewable energy.

Winners of this award in different categories were- Suzlon (Energy), Vodafone Group (Telecommunications), Reckitt Benckiser Group (Consumer Staples), Nike (Consumer Discretionary), 3M (Industrials) and GDF Suez (Utilities).
