Taichung landscape park wins FIABCI gold

Qiuhong Valley Landscape Park in Taichung City claimed gold at the International Real Estate Federation FIABCI’s Prix d’Excellence May 21 in Luxembourg.

The urban project trumped over 60 strong contenders worldwide in the category of public infrastructure and amenities. This is the central Taiwan city’s third straight top-spot finish since 2011 at the award, which recognizes leading real estate projects and developments around the globe.

Once an abandoned construction site, the 3-hectare site was turned into an ecological park in 2012. Featuring a concave surface, it doubles as a detention barrier against flooding.

The project also boasts a green coverage area of about 28,000 square meters, as well as a body of water measuring 6,200 square meters, according to Taichung City Government.

With its prime location in downtown Taichung, Qiuhong Valley serves as a green belt linking Taichung Metropolitan Opera House and the new city hall. Its contribution to mitigating the urban heat island effect was cited as a reason for the project’s FIABCI honor.

The prestigious award, often dubbed the Oscars of the global real estate industry, is hosted annually by the FIABCI at its World Congress. This year, the congress attracted more than 1,500 industry professionals May 17-22 in Luxembourg.
