The 2013 Taiwan International Electric Vehicle Show, which concluded April 13, was a huge success, with a large increase in the number of display booths and international buyers over last year, pointing to a bright future for the nation’s EV industry.
Strong points of the country’s industry are its completeness and integration, high technical skill in everything from component manufacture to final assembly, reliable quality and reasonable prices.
Vital to the sector’s success is Taiwan Automotive Research Consortium’s role in promoting development and intellectual property protection of key technologies, said Fu Ho-chung, TARC chairman and president of the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre, with 128 patents secured or pending for smart EVs.
Established three years ago, TARC comprises MIRDC; the Material and Chemical and Mechanical and Systems research laboratories of the Industrial Technology Research Institute; Automotive Research and Testing Center; Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology and Hua-Chuang Automobile Information Technical Center.
