Tata Power Co. Ltd. said it had commenced the commercial operation or COD of its 3MW photo voltaic based, grid connected solar power plant at Mulshi near Pune in Maharashtra. The plant achieved COD in March this year.
The company said the energy produced from the 3MW solar plant would be purchased by Tata Power-Distribution in Mumbai to meet the renewable power obligation as per MERC guidelines.
This is the first and largest solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the state of Maharashtra and one of the largest in the country. The company had set up its first solar power plant of 100kW way back in 1996 at Walwhan in Lonavla.
Tata BP Solar is the technology provider for the project.
The company has an aggressive plan of generating 25,000MW by 2017 and intends to have a 20-25 percent contribution from ‘clean power sources’, which will include a mix of hydro, solar, wind, geothermal and waste gas generation.
Besides the 3MW solar plant at Mulshi, the company, through its subsidiary, is implementing a solar power project of 25MW in Mithapur, Gujarat, for which is already signed the power purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. under the Gujarat State’s Solar Power Policy 2009. The Gujarat solar project is targeting commercial operation in December this year. Tata Power subsidiary, NDPL, has also commissioned a 1MW grid connected roof top solar plant in Delhi.
At the BSE, Tata Power Co. shares are being traded at Rs.1,307.50, down by 1.18 percent from the previous close.
