Telecoms group SoftBank to install 4MW of rooftop PV

Under the “Ouchi power project” initiative, SoftBank’s SB Energy unit will install about 4MW of panels on homes in 31 prefectures.

SoftBank declined to reveal how much it plans to invest in the push, which will be SB Energy’s first rooftop solar project. SoftBank established the renewable energy division in October 2011.

SoftBank plans to sell the power generated to major utility companies.

SoftBank spokesman Kenichi Yuasa told Recharge that SB Energy will buy panels from Suntech and Sharp. He said the firm has yet to start construction on any rooftop solar arrays.
