Turning nomadic to cope with climate change

Climate change has pushed many communities in Asia, Latin America and Africa to adopt nomadic lifestyles, according to a new study by the United Nations University and CARE International presented at the sidelines of the ongoing UN climate conference in Doha. The study which involved empirical research on communities in Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Ghana, Tanzania, Guatemala and Peru has revealed that climate-vulnerable sectors use migration as a risk management strategy. Viewing climate change in terms of rainfall variability, rural people migrate in order to cope with household food insecurity brought about by climate change, the study said.
