Vietnam, JICA cooperate in new science project

A cooperation agreement on a project to establish a carbon cycle system with natural rubber was signed between Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam on February 18 in Hanoi .

According to the agreement, JICA will provide 5.7 - 6 million USD in nonrefundable assistance for the project, which will be carried out from April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2016 with the aim of establishing a new ISO standard for Vietnam’s rubber products.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, JICA Chief Representative in Vietnam Tsuno Motonori said that in the context of rising demand for rubber, the project is very significant in developing new industrial sectors using natural rubber, which is an environmentally friendly product.

The Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the Rubber Research Institute of Vietnam under the Vietnam Rubber Group will get 4 million USD of the amount and the Nagaoka University of Japan will receive 1.7 to 2 million USD.

Previously, Hanoi University of Science and Technology signed with the Nagaoka University a cooperation agreement of project implementation in Japan on January 24.
