West Java uses stickers in non-subsidized fuel campaign

The West Java administration has put non-subsidized fuel stickers on at least 1,200 official cars in line with a Presidential Instruction on energy saving that came into force on June 1.

The orange stickers, which read: “This car does not use subsidized fuel”, are placed on the front and rear windshields of the official cars.

“The orange color has nothing to do with any political party,” West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan said on Monday on the sidelines of a morning ceremony at the Gedung Sate gubernatorial office in Bandung, West Java.

He symbolically placed stickers on two Toyota Crown sedans - two of the administration’s official cars - during the ceremony.

“We will not increase our budget [on fuel spending]. Hopefully, this will create a new equilibrium,” he said.

Heryawan said each official car and motorcycle would receive a limited number of vouchers equal to 200 liters and to 40 liters of subsidized fuel to buy non-subsidized fuel.

But West Java financial bureau head Sri Mulyono said he could not confirm the amount of budget the administration had allocated this year on fuel spending, and neither could he confirm the exact number of official cars and motorcycles to be given the vouchers.

Those driving official vehicles will have to buy more non-subsidized fuel if their fuel consumption exceeds the amount issued in the vouchers, according to Heryawan.

He said the provisional equipment bureau would serve official vehicle operators who wanted to get the vouchers, which are available in three, five and 10 liters.

The vouchers can only be used at appointed gas stations, with civil servants working at the West Java Secretariat allowed to use their vouchers at a gas station with a register number of 34.40133 on Jl. Riau, Bandung.

West Java provisional equipment bureau head Dadang S. Wisasta said the administration was still deliberating the specifications of official vehicles running on diesel fuel because they would also have to switch to biodiesel.
