Australia has great potential to be a food source for Asia if only it is not so focused on its mining economy. Despite its proximity to the region, food security specialist from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University Professor Paul Teng said, Australia has trailed behind the US, Europe, South Africa, South America in supplying fresh and processed food to Asia. He said Australia could do well in supplying meat or fruit and vegetables to Asia, and yet the country has yet to take advantage of this opportunity.
Asian governments with their fast-growing populations now looks to ensure they have safe and reliable food supply from both local and overseas sources.
