1st Emirates Green Building Council Awards

1st Emirates Green Building Council Awards records strong response from across the MENA region. Last date for submissions is October 10; Awards in 8 categories to honour excellence in promoting and upholding sustainability initiatives

Dubai, UAE - Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC),an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices, is receiving strong response for its inaugural EGBC Awards that honour excellence in sustainability initiatives across the Middle East and North Africa region. Organisations and university students can apply for the Awards with the last date for submissions being October 10, 2013.

Seven EGBC Awards will be presented to organisations for their demonstrated commitment to sustainable design, construction, and operation of buildings and structures. Additionally, the Dr Owainati Student Award will be presented to one university student for innovative and inspiring ideas that will contribute to sustainable development in the construction and building industry.

Jeffrey Willis, Vice Chairman of EmiratesGBC, said: “The response to the EGBC Awards has been positive with entries received from across the MENA region. It demonstrates the strong interest across the region in promoting sustainable built environments and the focus on localised innovation to create and deliver ‘green’ building solutions. The Awards are a key initiative by the Council in line with the new government initiatives taking place in the UAE and throughout the Middle East.  They mark the progress we have made and continue to make in areas of innovation and sustainable solutions.”

The award submissions are being received in the following categories: Operational Green Building Award; Carbon Savings/Reduction Programme of the Year Award; Green Building System Award; Green Building Material/Product Award; Green Building Research Award; Training Initiative of the Year Award; Refurbishment of the Year Award; and the Dr Owainati Student Award.

The submissions can be made online at: http://emiratesgbc.org/congress/congress-awards/. More details and entry requirements are provided on-site. The winners will be announced at the second annual EmiratesGBC Congress to be held in December 2013.

The Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) was founded in June 2006, and became the 8th full member of the World Green Building Council in September 2006. EmiratesGBC is an organization that promotes and educates on green issues in the built environment and is the official body for the UAE endorsed by the World Green Building Council. EmiratesGBC currently has around 260 members in the UAE which represents 1000s of individuals interested and involved in Green Building in the UAE and the region.
