Butterfield expands scholarship to support next generation of environmental leaders to Singapore

Butterfield (Singapore) Pte. Ltd, a leading global trust and fiduciary services provider, is now receiving applications for the annual Butterfield Postgraduate Scholarship.

To support the next generation of environmental leaders, Butterfield awards the scholarship to one student each year pursuing a postgraduate degree related to the preservation and improvement of island environments. The scholarship of USD$25,000 is tenable for up to four years of full-time study.

Barisse Griffin from The Bahamas, who received the 2019 scholarship to fund her master’s degree in Disasters, Adaption and Development Management at King’s College in London, said: “The Butterfield Postgraduate Scholarship has given me a head-start in my career, enabling me to focus on my studies, while gaining experience in the field of disaster and development. I highly recommend students apply for this amazing opportunity.”

Barisse is now developing strategies to improve crisis response in The Bahamas and across the Caribbean, helping to combat natural disasters and protect the islands.

Brian Balleine, Regional Head of Butterfield’s trust office in Singapore, said: “Butterfield Trust in Asia is delighted to offer the Postgraduate Scholarship for the first time this year to students in Singapore. When we first established our presence here in 2018, our goal was not only to bring our best-in-class trust and fiduciary services to clients in Asia, but also to invest in and support the communities we call home. The scholarship reinforces our commitment to develop the next generation of environment leaders, as we continue to make a difference in the region beyond client service excellence.”

The scholarship is open to students from all ten jurisdictions in which Butterfield operates, including Guernsey, Jersey, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, the UK, The Bahamas, Switzerland, Mauritius and Singapore.
